Yoga encourages us to move away from any unconscious habitual patterns and inversions are simply another way to shake things up a bit.  Standing on your hands and head or balancing on your shoulders is exhilarating, energizing, cleansing, humbling and fun!  Doing an inversion may look easy, but in reality it’s quite challenging.  It requires internal and external work.  Learn how to establish a strong foundation.  Identify and understand patterns may be inhibiting or fueling your ability to try.  Explore modifications and the use of props to build confidence so you can be upside down.

Open to all levels of experience.

Led 1/2 Primary Series w/ Discussion – 17:00-19:00 ~ $30 (27,00€)
While Half Primary classes move more slowly than Primary Series classes, you’ll build
up heat in your body, sweat and detoxify. This class moves at a slower pace, which
allows for more instruction, introducing some of the more advanced poses in an
approachable way. The class is appropriate for anyone who is working toward the
Primary Series, as well as experienced Hatha yogis who want a taste of Ashtanga.
The Half Primary is truly a mixed level class that attracts new students and experienced
Primary Series students who value slowing things down a bit from time to time.
Modifications are encouraged.

Thursday June 4, 2015

Mysore Practice (Intro class) – 10:00-12:00 ~ $45 (40,00€)
The ‘Mysore Style’ method is named after the city where Ashtanga teacher, Sri K.
Sharath Jois lives and teaches, continuing this teaching style from his teacher, Sri K.
Pattabhi Jois and his teacher, Krishnamacharya. In this special class, you learn to
take individual responsibility for your yoga practice and develop a deeply trusting
relationship with your teacher. With proper skill and dedication, this approach is
perhaps the safest way to learn more advanced asanas or postures. By committing
yourself fully to one yoga style, one teaching method and a regular practice, you open
the door to deeper levels of your body, mind and spirit.

Students will be scheduled a start time according to there knowledge of the series.

Please note that it is not required of you to know any of the Primary series to attend this class.

Tristana Method – 14:00-16:30 ~ $45 (40,00€)
The basis of the physical practice of Ashtanga yoga as taught is founded in the
Tristana method. This three-pronged approach uses Breath (ujjayi), Asana (postures
and bandhas) and Drsti (fixed gaze). These three tools put together and in place are
used to train, strengthen and calm your mind while conditioning and detoxifying the
body through movement. When you calm the breath you are able to control your state
of arousal and bring the body and mind to a place a stillness.

Grounded in Asana – $35.00
The standing poses of Ashtanga are the basic grounding and centering asanas, therefore, making them an ideal starting point for your practice. All the postures integrate the body, balancing flexibility, strength, endurance, and coordination. In this workshop we’ll bring our attention to the connection that we have with the earth through our feet. Learning to be relaxed and balanced as we realign our foundation from the feet, to the ankles, through the knees, to the pelvis and base of the spine. Because standing poses require us to actively engage our awareness of how we use our muscles, joints, and breath, they build both mental and physical stamina as well as discipline. No matter what else you might want to explore in the vast world of yoga, this workshop will give you a solid foundation, good alignment, an understanding of body mechanics, and tangible training in mindfulness.

Transitions in Vinyasa (jump through to the jump back)  – $35.00
To transition means to move or connect one idea to the next. Let’s be honest with ourselves, we all want that sensation of ‘lightness” when we’re doing yoga. In this case, we will be looking at the movements in a vinyasa practice that weave postures together.
Transitions show us the relationship between the foundation of an asana and all the ideas that support it. They help us to gauge progression of our practice when we are flowing in a vinyasa class, from basic to challenging, by the fluidity and grace of our actions. We’ll break down the jump back to chaturanga in the 3rd and 4th vinyasa of Sun Salutations as well as the jump forward from downdog back to standing. This will help you to understand the underlying components of the jump back, jump through transitions of seated postures and how the backbone is based on a series of 3 main postures from Sun Salutation A. Learn some basic anatomy and strength exercises as well as correct breathing techniques to assist you in developing healthy movement patterns. Let’s get lifted!

Yoga is said to be 99% practice and 1% theory. What would practice be if there wasn’t anything to back it up? Why are we so interested in yoga? What brings us to meditation? How should we practice awareness in the present moment of an experience? What does it mean when we hear mind-body-spirit integration? Where does philosophy play a role in physical yoga practice? As you continue on your yoga journey some of these questions will naturally arise in the mind leaving you more curious about the bigger picture of YOGA.
YS 1.2 yogas chitta vritti nirodhah – yoga is the removal of the fluctuations of the mind field.

Patajali’s 8 limb path (Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, Samadhi) of yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, is set up in a way to help us achieve this state of mental stillness (nirodhah). During this lecture we will discuss basic philosophy of the 8 limbs, applying them to practice not just on the mat, but everywhere in your life.
